Excellent Theater Training 1 block from CIIS

2007 Two Week Summer Training Intensive in foolsFURY Technique

July 9 - 20, 2007
Intended for actors, directors, writers, dancers and designers.

foolsFURY offers a two-week workshop in the company's unique, multi-faceted approach to making striking vital theater. This two week intensive will teach you cutting-edge techniques in contemporary theater, and help you use them in your own work.

Our exploration will stretch your notions of how stories can be told on stage, and allow you to unlock new areas of creativity in your bodies, and your mind. The program brings together many of the styles and forms which we have carefully integrated into our exciting, powerful, liberating approach to creation, including Viewpoints, Suzuki, Buffoonery, Improvisation, focused writing exercises and more.

The Intensive includes

Physical Actor Training - Acting with your body, acting with your mind. How do you claim that stage the moment you step foot on it? We recognize the power of actors with this ability immediately, but capturing it can seem elusive. Here you'll develop physical control and creativity that will make your performace work compelling and powerful.

Ensemble Creation - Harnessing the power of collaboration. Theater is inherently collaborative. But true collaboration can be so difficult! Here you'll learn methods of using the immense creative potential in an ensemble of dedicated artists - methods that you'll be able to apply when working with your company, or your next project.

Experimental for Everyone - Using "avant-garde" tools in making accessible plays. For the past nine years, foolsFURY has been exploring the edges of theatrical form, bridging the gap between exerimental work, and the superb approachable story-telling. Here we'll share what we've discovered about using these "cutting-edge" techniques in making vibrant theater that is both thought-provoking and accessible.

Taught by artistic director Ben Yalom and members of the foolsFURY Ensemble.

Location: Jon Sims Center, S.F. 1519 Mission Street

Program Dates: July 9 - 20, 2007

Times: Monday - Friday Evenings, 6:30 - 10:30pm (some additional rehearsal outside class is necessary)

Tuition: $450

Questions?: Contact ben@foolsfury.org or 415.377.5277

Gestalt Therapy

Hello all. ;) I graduated CIIS drama therapy program last year and am currently working on an acute, inpatient adult psych unit doing various creative groups and 1:1's (and far too much paperwork, but that's a whole other story!). Anyway, I have always been into psychodrama and do some with the dual diagnosis unit, but I have never actually studied gestalt. I know there are some things in common with psychodrama and I plan to at some point attend one of the intensive Esalen Gestalt workshops. Have any of you studied Gestalt and/or used it with clients?
